“International Day of Democracy”
International Day of Democracy is observed globally on 15th September every year.
• Theme 2022: “To uphold and promote the principles of democracy”.
• It was established through a resolution passed by the UN General Assembly in 2007, for promoting and upholding the principles of democracy and provide an opportunity to review the state of democracy in the world.
• The report on the state of democracy in 165 independent countries and two territories in 2021 was published by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU).
• In the Democracy Index 2021, Asia continues to be ranked fourth, behind North America, Western Europe, and Latin America.
